The first seminar of the winter series was enjoyed by a good crowd of SOS members and supporters at the St Heliers library on Thursday 26th July. Local author and well known architect Tony Watkins gave an entertaining and thought provoking talk on the meaning and importance of heritage. He spoke about how heritage was not something that we inherit from our parents but rather something we are protecting for our children. Desley Simpson Chair of the Orakei Local Board gave an update on the progress of the review of the St Heliers Village Plan. Once the local landowners have given their feedback on the draft, the revised plan will go out for wider consultation.
The next lecture in the series will be in late August or early September and the topic will be on urban design and the plans to intensify Auckland’s development.
